FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid) is the main building block of the high-performance, plant-based and fully recyclable polymer PEF (polyethylene furanoate). Avantium has demonstrated the technology in its pilot plant in Geleen (The Netherlands) and the company plans to open the world’s first commercial FDCA plant in 2024. The first pile of this flagship FDCA plant was placed on 20 April 2022 in Delfzijl (The Netherlands). Virginia Puzzolo, Head of Programme at CBE, was speaking at the event and the PEFerence consortium came together to celebrate this big step. Impressions from the first pile event and the latest pictures from the construction site:
The FDCA pilot plant will be a big step towards the transition to next-generation materials for a truly circular and sustainable future.
